Christmas Cactus Buds

I just checked last year's blog and the Christmas cactus bloomed in November! It's late this year. It's just now getting buds. Maybe it will bloom for Christmas!

Nothing much going on.

Nobody in the birdhouse.

A few berries on my bush.

This is the spider by our front door. I hope he stays outside.

The marigold is still blooming.

And the alysim I planted to attract bees is still growing but no more crops left and I think the bees are hibernating.

Sunday, October 19, 2008

There is not much going on in the garden. I planted a bunch of ground cover seeds and then next day Mark saw a bunch of little birds feasting on the seeds. I should have covered them up better rather than just scattering the seeds.

There are some mystery plants growing in the back. Potatoes that I didn't find maybe?

The bushes in the front are overgrown already. I have to cut them back again they are starting to overtake the walk.

The raspberries are getting new vines and are expanding themselves beyond the original row.
The lilac bush has buds, I hope these are flower buds for next year.

The Sumac is starting to turn for fall.

Almost Sunflower

There are three trees growing by the side of the house even though I've pulled up several they keep growing. Two firs and one maple?

The sunflower is almost open...so close

Seeds

I started a seed experiment on Friday. I put two seeds from every package into a bag to see if they would sprout. I have 40 packets so this way I can throw out any that aren't good anymore. It's only been two days and some have already sprouted!
I also threw some ground cover seeds in the garden on friday.

Tall Sunflowers

The sunflowers are getting really tall! Simba had to watch from the deck. He'd rather be in the garden.
Pumpkin plant. Spiders get in my way when I walk around the garden!
Zucchini has blooms but doesn't look that strong.
I've got beans now and still some peas left.

Sunflower bud

The corn has a tassle but it's not very tall.

It's raining again and the bean blooms have turned into beans! I am still eating peas too.

This is the bud on the sunflower.

I picked blackberries again and Mark made another pie. I love blackberry pie!

Waiting for sunflowers

The sunflowers are really getting taller. I'm still eating the last of the peas.
The kale is blooming the pretty yellow flowers that the bees love.
The thistle are starting to bloom.
The sweat peas smell really good.
Next year's raspberry canes are looking good.

Zucchini blooms

My sunflowers are getting much taller.P7200144

This corn is pathetic.  I heard it should be as tall as an elephant's eye by the fourth of July - I had always thought it was "knee high by the fourth of July" - either way it's not even close
